Russell Planning and Engineering (RPE) is pleased to announce we have been selected by Taos Ski Valley as the Civil Engineer responsible for designing the Pioneer’s Glade single family development located in the Village of Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico. Taos is known as one of the premier ski and snowboard areas in the United States, with both terrain and weather consistently ranking in the top 10 of all ski areas in North America.

The award of this contract continues RPE’s proud tradition of providing high-quality, custom engineering services for developments in difficult mountainous terrain. The Pioneer’s Glade development will be situated on the eastern slopes of the Taos Ski Valley Area and will have both ski-in and ski-out access. We are very excited about our new partnership with Taos Ski Valley. We are looking forward to providing quality engineering services for this project and hope to continue this new relationship well into the future.

The reconstruction project is a 39,000 square foot parking, trailhead and recreation area design-build project. The project site is located within Petroglyph National Monument outside of Albuquerque, NM. Parking area design considerations include circulation and accommodation of tour busses and recreation vehicles. Pedestrian design considerations include ADA compliant facilities, efficient pedestrian access design, and minimizing vehicle-pedestrian conflict areas. Grading challenges include avoidance of cultural resources by minimizing cut areas, balancing earthwork and the mitigation of highly erosive soils. Day use facilities such as picnic areas, shade structures and comfort stations were located to provide the maximum value for the visitor. RPE provided survey coordination, traffic circulation design, grading design with earthwork volume balancing calculations, drainage design, landscape design, and construction coordination.

RPE is excited to announce our newest client, the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe. We will be working with the Tribe’s Environmental Programs Department designing Stormwater Best Management Practices, or BMPs. The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe has received a grant from the EPA for design and construction of stormawater management improvements. The ultimate goal is to improve water quality to Navajo Wash which flows through Tribal lands by reducing sediment transport to the drainage. We look forward to tackling this important project and creating a lasting partnership with the Utes.
